Last Saturday, it was supposed to be an outing with a bunch of colleague but it was postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. Since schedule has been set, I suggested a movie excursion instead. Since most of them were ladies, I suggested “Confession of a Shopaholic” which would be likely acceptable by all.
The book is selling like a hot cake even a housemate actually bought one of them making me wondered how good it could be on movie. To be honest, I didn’t expect much from this kind of movie and it turned out to be quite satisfying.
It was a very lighthearted and easy going romantic comedy which is very much predictable. Some hilarious scenes will definitely make everyone laugh with open heart. A simple and pretty much unsurprising storyline were all good to keep you entertained in a relaxing manner.
A shopaholic debtor work as a saving consultant, can you imagine the hiccup she going to create?
Rebecca Bloomwood (Isla Fisher), a hardcore shopaholic who really cannot resist the temptation buying all the unnecessary accessories. Worst still, all those are designer branded stuff which will surely smoke her 12 pieces of credit cards with total balance of USD16K+ debts to pay. I’m a big spender as well but not on clothing, everyone knows best where the shoe pinches. I learned the hard way once. Hope it not going to repeat.
Luke Brandon and Suze
One will never learn without losing the dearest. This was what I captured in this movie. Rebecca almost lost everything, a best friend Suze (Krystern Ritter), a decent boy friend Luke Brandon (Hugh Dancy), Reputation, etc all caused from her bad self-control over her excessive purchases. We never realize what is precious before its gone and most of the time, it is irrecoverable. However, Rebecca made a right choice by understanding that honesty is the only way out and she was blessed to be given a 2nd chance with support from family and friends.
In opinion, I think this movie is making a good job by showing how bad it could be for shopaholic addiction. I wouldn’t say this is a great movie but rather achieved what it meant for. I walked out the cinema enjoyed. However, for a very similar type of movie, I would personally like “The Devil wears Prada” more. The fashion appeared in the latter was more to my taste comparing both. The fashion sense is too pinkish to me in this movie.

Myhorng Rating – 6.5/10
