A daily repetitive term we hear. A dreadful term that everyone fear and don’t want to be a part of, and yet it is so unavoidable. The semiconductor, electrical and electronics, textile manufacturing industries are those badly hit in Malaysia. Hence, Penang is the state that worst affected by this round of economy’s tsunami. And well, I’m working in a company who support semiconductor industry. So, be creative and think what kind of situation I’m in now. No prices for getting it right because I couldn’t afford any.
Our Human Resources Minister was claiming the number of temporarily laid-off workers rose to 80,000 and the number retrenched was about 15,000. Almost 0.5% of our population. Kind of scary also actually. However, the good news is, our government is actually trying to do something for those affected. Penang Ah Eng Ko setup The Penang Career Assitance and Training Center (Penang CAT Center) to assist those affected finding employment. Not a big step to cure the current situation but at least doing something which I think is meaningful. Thumbs-up for our Penang CM.
