To begin the 2nd morning, I steered over to transfer road, parallel to main thoroughfare Penang road, between the turnoffs to Hutton lane and Argyll road there is an anonymous open-air stall that serves possibly the best breakfast in town which I wrote in detail previously. Don’t be alarmed by its rickety appearance, the roti canai, roti bakar and soft boiled eggs will worth it all.
The must eat breakfast when I’m back in Penang
It was unusual for me to travel home mainly for celebrating Father’s Day, 14th June 2009 should be a day to remember. Got to know from my sister in law, dad was actually hinting everyone at home that nobody was doing anything for ‘his’ day and I thought to myself, I made the right choice to be home for it.
I was not able to do dinner as I need to travel back central to earn a living thus, late lunch after my parents were done with their stall business was the only choice we had. It was not easy to find a decent place for a meal squeezed in between lunch and tea break except hawkers or hotel’s coffee house. Hence, the latter, operating 24-7 would be the perfect venue.
During my schooling days, Rasa Sayang Beach Resort was the place I used to make pocket money from as a banquet casual worker for many years. Knowing inside out of this place and the staffs before it was refurbished to become even better than before which was by then already one of the greatest hotel in Malaysia, my heart told me I should bring my parents and family to experience the dining sensation in the hotel that I used to be part of, at least I think so lar.
Spice Garden a.k.a Coffee Garden for Rasa Sayang
We were at Spice Garden around 3pm and the place was almost empty. With the young and the old around, we decided to stay in the air-conditioned area which was kinda chilling and calming. The food took a while to serve. It might be due to the odd hours with limited chef around.
Long table setup for us and some still waiting for the food
I ordered seafood spaghetti which came with scallops, prawns, fish, mussels and lobster. The taste was good but not awesome. However, how could you not satisfy with all those ingredient available on your dish?
My mom shared similar opinion from a piece of lobster I gave her & I was definitely happy with my order.
My seafood pasta
Other than the kiddo’s meal, white fish burger which was kind of tasteless (maybe it was meant to be that way for young kids), the rest of the serving were rather tasty. The taste of food will not be the driving factor for you to come back craving for more, but all of them were certainly up to a 5 stars hotel’s quality. However, with combination of the food and environment, returning here is doubtless.
Fish Tikka, Fried Rice Malaysian Style, Spicy noodles, Complimentary Appetizer
Kiddo meal, Fish & Chips, BBQ Lamb, Grilled Chicken
I visited Spice Garden once early this year. I was having some succulent tenderloin steak on my plate and it was real awesome. A cup of coffee after meal was an enjoyment, without any disturbance, it was also the best spot to chill and talk. We were at the open air section previously and the natural sea breeze brought to us feeling of utmost relaxation. Most important is, the price was very reasonable. 2 main course with 2 cups of coffee ended up RM116.00 on the bill.
Tenderloin Steak Medium
Delicious coffee either at Starbucks price or slightly more only
Stroll around the hotel compound enjoying the landscaping was pleasurable despite the hot sun by the beach. The pools are nice but you have to be an in-house guest to be dipping in it. No luck on this. Hotel room charges are way too expensive for a swim. I’m so glad that I was back for this and I do love my family by a lot. Spending RM200 each among 3 brothers was worth every single cent.
