Malaysia, 43rd most populated country in the world with multiracial population. Most of the time we live peacefully among races by showing a lot of respects and tolerances to one and another. The best part to live in such a country is, we get to celebrate and enjoy the holidays granted from new year celebration from different races. Deepavali (Festival of Lights for Indian) is around the corner and Hari Raya Aidilfitri (New year celebration for the Malays ) just over not too long ago.
Today, lunch was special as we were invited to an open house for Hari Raya Celebration. I got to know from Shiang the quote for invitation was “Good food promised”. Well, that was really hard to resist, wasn’t it?

This should be the way you attend a Raya open house with (god)
I believe we were the first guests of the day and some really tempting intellectual nourishment were well prepared, displayed on the dinning table. We had some cookies and drink in the living room before the hungry ghost attitude provoked.

The lemang (bamboo cooked rice) and heavily spiced curry chicken were just simply irresistible. Trust me, these are something you should not eat too frequent if you don’t want to narrow down your arteries.

Main course was this home-cooked Johor Laksa with a lot of green stuff. All those nicely pre-cut stuff went on top of spaghetti, lime squeezed for it’s juice into the dish, the hot thick creamy laksa sauce covered up everything and finally, mixed everything up and filled our stomach with it. one word – Delicious.

On the actual Raya day itself, I went to another open house when I was back in Penang. Food served in buffet style with typical Malay dishes serving. It was very delightful especially the succulent curry beef was scrumptious.
