Tsunami of Haeundae

Plan for routine ball hitting session screwed by unusual heavy traffic on LDP after dinner time. Made a U-turn and drove to Tropicana Mall instead. Bought a ticket, Tsunami was the soonest screening and the movie starts 5 mins after I reached the cinema. No waiting down time at all. How nice right?

With the intention of pampering myself by sitting down and enjoy the movie initially was soon extinct after I recalled it was an alien language Korean movie. 99.5% of time was subtitle dependent.

It started with light and easy and those Korean were surely amusing. Characters introduction took up quite amount of the total screening but it was all good (very Korean kind of way) . Not too draggy I felt. Not too sure if it was the ridiculous acts by the Koreans which was kinda entertaining actually.

Plot was typical disaster movie which won’t surprise you at all.  Ignorance the signs showed by mother nature will certainly make you pay the hard way for the aftermath. Do you still remember 26th December 2004? I can still remember clearly the muddy Gurney Drive in Penang Island, the tree trunk and the boat lied exactly middle of the road in Tg. Tokong and not to mention the sirens that kept wailing for days. That was just a minor after effect from the main Tsunami that hit Indonesia and Sri Lanka badly. The Tsunami that showed in the movie was a promising at least 50ft height mega scale tsunami not once but follow one after another. Just imagine how bad it could be if that’s for real.

The mega scale gigantic Tsunami (does looks like Penang Bridge a little)

Now, when disaster strikes, life-threatening, and only by then we are able to realize and treasure what we have or what is surrounding us? How many times we watched this kind of film and never learn from it at all? Okie, they were just movie, fine. But it doesn’t mean it won’t happen for real right?  Really hope that we will not need to learn only during the real tragical situation like what this movie conveyed.

Special effect was fine but definitely not top of the notch setup. Not really a must watch item, but something worth watching for leisure time spending.  I have to agree with GalvinTan that this movie was basically comical and tragic at the same time.

Myhorng Rating : – 7/10
