Had an early BKT brunch on a lovely Sunday morning leaving fair a bit of spare time to relax and basically doing nothing. While exploring my photo archive, the pictures of recent Tomb Sweeping Day captured my eyes.
It has been a tradition since 2500 years back that QingMing Festival was set as an opportunity for us to remember and honor our ancestors at grave sites. Not saying that I agree to the mentality of paying respect to the death when they probably won’t even know it anymore. To me, I think it is more meaningful that we respect them when they are alive. However, I still treasure this honorable occasion and will try my best to be around for it. I missed it few times when I was making a living out from the country but this year, I was there together with the rest of family members, paid respect to my ancestors.
The day started early in the morning where I really need to haul myself out from bed. We basically need to rush for 3 sessions in a day but we ended up with 4. My paternal grandfather was the first stop of the day.

Prayers with candles and joss sticks accompany by simple assorted fruits and Chinese pastry

Preparing and arrangement in progress

My paternal grandfather stays in condo
2nd stop was my paternal grandmother who I barely know. She stays in a condo as well located just below foot of Penang Hill. When we where there, Mr. Sunny was just awake and starts its daily routine.

I like the sunrise scenery when we were there
Last year, cancer took away the life one of my uncle who was seriously a very health concern person. It did surprise us in all the way it could. This year, we gave our respect to him at his new bungalow with splendid view located on top of a hill facing the sea.

Full fiesta with chicken, duck etc and lucky there were no sad faces around
Last but not least was my maternal grandparent’s tomb. Both my grandparents share a bungalow for more than 20+ years. It was always fun to be there as everyone will gather and paid respect to the death then eventually picnicked in front of the grave. That’s the reason why we have this huge ass Tiger umbrella.

It was a bright sunny day
I was not able to make it to the last of the session as I need to rush back to KL for an event which really meant a lot to me. And I would like to specially dedicated this random post you who is alone at Bermuda. I know how it feels to be far away and knowing the rest is having something going on. Cheerss…..
